We had a good idea something big was coming for DiRT Rally and here it is: DiRT Rally will be getting PlayStation VR compatibility.
The surprise announcement came today courtesy of the Codemasters blog which states that PSVR compatibility will be added in the coming weeks. The update will be made available for existing players as a DLC add-on at £9.99 on the PlayStation Store.
Furthermore, the update will also be available from retailers thanks to a new boxed version of DiRT Rally with the PSVR content included.
Finally the new update, coming soon, will enable two players to play alongside one another – one races in VR while the other acts as co-driver. The co-driver will use the “social screen” (your TV output when in PSVR mode) to send calls to the other player using a controller. It's up to the co-driver to initiate calls in time for the driver in PSVR to be successful.
Paul Coleman, Chief Games Designer, DiRT Rally, said: “The PlayStation®VR upgrade allows you to get closer than ever to the experience of being a real life rally driver. The addition of the co-driver mode also allows you to work together with a friend to get through the stage and adds an even deeper level of realism and immersion to the rally stages.”
Let us know what you make of the update in the comments below. We'll keep you up to date on any developments as soon as we know more.
