Game: Hotshot Racing
Platform: PC, PS4, Switch, XBox One
Publisher: Curve Digital
Release Date: Summer 2020
The 90’s arcade-inspired racer Hotshot Racing will be racing its way over to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch and PC (via Steam) this spring.
You may remember the game from its previous name Racing Apex (not to be confused with Apex Racing League which later became Circuit Superstars, are you keeping up?) although it looks like they’ve done away with the weapons. The colourful retro-inspired racing game is co-developed by Lucky Mountain Games and Sumo Digital and features polygonal visuals, boost-fuelled drift gameplay mechanics and 60 frames per second gameplay across its single-player modes.
Take a look at all its 90’s charm in the reveal trailer below.
Hotshot Racing features eight different drivers each with their own personality and multiple vehicles, sixteen retro-inspired tracks from across the globe and multiple game modes. Hotshot Racing also features multiple single-player and multiplayer game modes – both online and offline including 4-player local split-screen co-op.
The developer has revealed details on the various modes throughout the game. The Grand Prix mode challenges players to race on multiple tracks in a championship format, the Time Trial mode gives players the chance to put in their best lap times for the online leaderboards. Cops and Robbers mode sees criminals evading capture to take home a big cash bonus whereas the police need to take them down. Finally, the Drive or Explode tasks players to race to checkpoints to avoid exploding, yikes.
