Bigben Games has recently released a new gameplay video for their off-road simulation title OVERPASS giving us a better idea of the challenges we will face and how best to conquer them.
OVERPASS gives the player the task of traversing extreme tracks and hazardous terrain utilising a range of off-road vehicles including powerful buggies and quads from brands such as Yamaha, Suzuki and Arctic Cat.
You’ll come up against both natural and man-made obstacles and will need to switch between differential settings to climb seemingly impossible craggy surfaces and death-defying slopes as you race against the clock to finish the course as quickly as possible.
The very latest gameplay video (seen below) is accompanied by commentary from Zordix Racing Development Director Joakim Eriksson who talks us through the nuances of the title. Rather than power your way through Jeremy Clarkson-style, OVERPASS rewards those that drive smartly. Eriksson states that each course has multiple solutions so there are no ‘wrong paths’.
If you drive too fast, you will run the risk of overloading the suspension which in turn will make you lose speed instead of gaining it explains Eriksson. Once you inevitably get stuck you will need to engage the differential lock to get yourself out of trouble. Doing so will give your vehicle that much-need traction as the wheels all work together to get you over any steep surfaces, just remember to disengage it afterwards as your ability to steer is greatly reduced with the differential engaged.
Sometimes using a differential alone is not enough to traverse those particularly steep sections, here you are better off backing up your vehicle to take a run at the slope and relying on a combination of differential and that all-important momentum to get you through, this is demonstrated in the video below.
Another very important element to OVERPASS is throttle control – too little throttle won’t be enough to get you through whereas too much can break your vehicle’s traction making you slide down the slope: finding the sweet spot is the way forward.
Take a look at the very latest OVERPASS video below to get some valuable course traversal tips. OVERPASS will be available across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (via Epic Games Store) on February 27 and will arrive on Switch at a later date.
