Release Date: 06/11/2018
It’s not very often an update comes along which radically alters the gameplay of a racing title so we’re more than a little surprised to learn that GRIP: Combat Racing‘s latest free update does just that.
The fast-paced racer swaps wheels for propulsion in its “AirBlades” update making the game much less like Rollcage and much more in the same vein as WipEout or F-Zero.
Check out the trailer below to see what I’m getting at.
The AirBlades update brings a new vehicle class powered by an Element 115 anti-grav engine, apparently. You’ll need to squeeze every drop out of the engine too as you do battle against the aggressive wheel-based “mechanical monsters” which go by the name of “Rollers”. Keeping with GRIP: Combat Racing tradition, the new class of vehicle can flip on any side.
“I’m pretty sure if WipeOut and Rollcage hooked up, this is the baby they’d pop out,” said Leo Zullo, Managing Director of Wired Productions. “It’s beyond exciting to finally be able to reveal AirBlades, as we see it as a true game changer and industry first. GRIP is a fantastic game, and thanks to the mighty talented team at Caged Elements for their visionary idea and commitment, gamers are now able to experience an even more truly amazing and unique experience that helps to redefine the racing genre.”
AirBlades are available on all the original GRIP: Combat Racing tracks as well as all of the new space-themed tracks. The free update is live right now on Steam, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with Nintendo Switch to follow later this month.
