One of the original Project CARS' best attributes was its plethora of iconic race tracks. Fortunately, this is set to continue as the announcement of Project CARS 2 confirmed that we can expect over 60 tracks in the sequel. According to developer Slightly Mad Studios, Project CARS 2 will have "the largest track roster of any console racing game ever".

If that wasn't already impressive, more tracks will be getting the laser-scan treatment in Project CARS 2. Slightly Mad Studios' CEO Ian Bell revealed on the GTPlanet forum how the team adopted a new laser-scanning technique using drones.  “Every new track we’ve added is laser scanned (or our new trick drone scanning method). We’re also scanning some of the old tracks that weren’t previously scanned,” he said, while also confirming that two of the old tracks that have been laser scanned include the Nurburgring Nordschleife and GP circuits.

By comparison, only four tracks were laser scanned in the original Project CARS: Oulton Park, Cadwell Park, Brands Hatch and Snetterton. Nothing can compare to the precision of laser scanning, which replicates every bump and surface camber with pinpoint accuracy.

This should be encouraging news for sim racing enthusiasts and gives Assetto Corsa some serious competition, since having laser scanned tracks was one of its main selling points. It still isn't known exactly how many tracks have been laser scanned for Project CARS 2, however.

Unlike Assetto Corsa, every track in Project CARS 2 will have fully dynamic weather and even changeable seasons thanks to its "LiveTrack 3.0" system. It's so advanced that rain will affect the track surface and generate puddles in real time over the course the race, since the water flows dynamically in accordance to the layout of the track.
