We give our early PC gameplay impressions on WRC 5, the very latest official WRC rally title offering in the long-running series.
Unfortunately we couldn't get the game to run in our triple-screen setup and so had to settle for some single screen gameplay as we race around Australia in our Volswagen Polo. Alan's early impressions of WRC 5 is that it is good fun to play, the graphics will perhaps not stop you in your tracks but are decent enough.
We do have some slight complaints with WRC 5, for instance we found that there wasn't enough spectators or marshals dotted around the courses to lend that extra bit of an authentic feel. Because of that you don't feel like you are part of the world famous WRC competition, there's not enough fanfare and atmosphere, it's as if you are taking part in a much more low key competition.
The replay cameras are perhaps another source of frustration as they simply don't capture that sense of danger and excitement of rally racing and come off as a bit dated. Of course it's worth pointing out that developer Kylotonn Games have only had one year to put WRC 5 together and we feel they have done a decent job considering the limited development time.
Assuming Kylotonn Games can keep hold of the official license, we have every faith in them that they will continue to improve the franchise as they have certainly gotten off to a good start. We'll have more detailed impressions, gameplay videos very soon, and you can look forward to our WRC 5 review in the coming weeks.
