During our recent visit to Kylotonn Games' studio for a behind the scenes look at WRC 6, most of our hands-on time focused on the PC version running in glorious 4K resolution. However, a lot of players will be playing WRC 6 on consoles, so a quick hands-on session with the PS4 version was necessary to see how it compared.
Unsurprisingly, the console versions of WRC 6 do lose some fidelity running in a lower resolution, but you can still appreciate the improved visuals and environmental detail on display in our gameplay video below.
It's the frame rate that matters, though – particularly as WRC 5's frame rate wasn't exactly consistent on the consoles. Unfortunately, it's a similar story for WRC 6, as Game Director Alain Jarniou confirmed that WRC 6 runs at a variable frame rate between 30fps and 60fps on PS4 and Xbox One.
Fortunately however, it's nowhere near as bad as it was in WRC 5 which suffered from some jarring stuttering, but it could still be better in WRC 6. Hopefully a patch will stabilise the frame rate on console in the near future.
