When Sony closed their Liverpool Studio and stubbornly refused to revive WipEout, a giant void was left in the futuristic racing game market.
As a result, we've seen a raft of indie-developed futuristic racing games inspired by WipEout flooding the market lately. One WipEout-inspired racer that's been on our radar for some time is Redout from Italian developer 34BigThings. Its stunning visuals, inventive track design and superb sense of speed instantly blew us away when it was first announced.
After playing the game for ourselves, we're confident saying that, out of all the futuristic racers on the market right now, Redout could be the WipEout spiritual successor you've been waiting for.
Ahead of its release next week, Alan managed to get a hands on with the game at Gamescom and sat down with the developers to find out more. You can check out our exclusive Redout gameplay and developer interview below.

34BigThings tell us how they want Redout to be a modern take on the futuristic genre. This is most apparent in the controls, as Redout uses real world physics derived quad-copters controllers and real magnetic forces to give you complete control of the craft whilst maintaining speed.
Redout is racing onto PC next week on September 2nd with full VR support for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, with console releases to follow early next year on PS4 and Xbox One.
