The Blancpain GT Series will have its first foray into the esports scene, via an upcoming race hosted on the official Blancpain game Assetto Corsa Competizione.
Set to be held at the upcoming Total 24 Hours of Spa endurance race (which will also be used to announce Assetto Corsa Competizione’s Steam Early Access release date), the multiplayer esports race will be fully supported by the official Blancpain GT Series organiser, SRO Motorsports Group.
Extra support for the inaugural Blancpain esports race will be provided by other partners, such as Pirelli, RSeat, Fanatec and Kunos Simulazioni’s esports partner AK Informatica.
Details on the race format itself weren’t disclosed in the announcement, though it was confirmed the top three finishers will be able to celebrate their performances on the podium at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
No restrictions on who could enter the competition were declared either. As the Assetto Corsa Competizione booths will be located in the Pirelli Activation Area, though, all prospective entrants will need to have a paddock ticket if they wish to participate.
The Blancpain GT Series E-Sports event will last throughout the 24 Hours of Spa race weekend, from Thursday 26th July to Sunday 29th July 2018, with the real life race starting at 4:30pm local time. Assetto Corsa Competizione’s aforementioned Steam Early Access release date will be confirmed on Friday 27th July, during the SRO Motorsports Group’s main press conference.
