McLaren has announced the follow-up series to last year’s World’s Fastest Gamer esports competition.
Currently known as the ‘McLaren Shadow Project’, the new competition differs slightly from the World’s Fastest Gamer setup.
Whereas the World’s Fastest Gamer winner Rudy van Buren won a contract to become a McLaren F1 team simulator driver, the Shadow Project victor will join the official McLaren esports team.

As with World’s Fastest Gamer, the McLaren Shadow Project will be open to players on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and mobile devices. At time of writing, McLaren has confirmed McLaren Shadow Project rounds will be hosted on Forza Motorsport 7, the mobile title Real Racing 3 and the PC racing sims iRacing and rFactor 2.
Qualifying rounds for the McLaren Shadow Project competition will commence sometime in August 2018, with the participants being further whittled down in numbers through heats and semi-final rounds.
The competition will officially conclude with January 2019, with the finals expected to again be held at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking.
More details on the McLaren Shadow Project esports competition are expected to be disclosed in the coming weeks.
