News GT Academy graduates score maiden win at Bathurst 12 Hour

Two of the GT Academy's 'NISMO Athlete' graduates have scored their maiden win for 2015, at the arduous Bathurst 12 Hour endurance race.

Though Japanese racing driver Katsumasa Chiyo was behind the wheel of the Nissan GT-R racing car in the final stint, both Wolfgang Reip and Florian Strauss (winners of GT Academies in 2012 and 2013 respectively) were part of the team that brought home Nissan's first win at the Mount Panorama circuit since the Bathurst 1000 in 1992.

Nissan's first Bathurst victory for 23 years was the culmination of a highly eventful race for the team: not only was the Bathurst 12 Hour interrupted by several safety car periods, but the team had to hastily repair the car after a crash during a qualifying session.

Wolfgang Reip was also a late addition to the NISMO Athlete Global Team's driver line-up, having been signed on after Alex Buncombe found himself unable to attend the race.

The GT Academy is expected to feature prominently in other endurance races in 2015, with the possibility of some NISMO Athletes being signed on to drive the Nissan GT-R LM NISMO at this year's 24 Heures du Mans.
