The first ever FIA-sanctioned Gran Turismo Online Championships esports series are now underway – with the competition set to run until November 2018.
Open to all Gran Turismo Sport players, the first part of the FIA Gran Turismo Online Championships will run from July to September 2018, before the Regional Finals commence in October.
This initial part of the FIA Gran Turismo Online Championships will allow players to select which of the two series they wish to participate in. The Nations Cup will allow competitors to represent their hone country, whereas the Manufacturers Series will limit users to cars from just one car maker.
A points-based scoring system will determine which players will proceed to October's Regional Finals and November's World Finals. The top 200 players in the FIA Gran Turismo Online Championship will also be eligible to register as a 'Star Player' – allowing them to accrue bonus points by participating in exclusive 'Top 24 Superstar Races'.
Much like the competition's inaugural 'World Tour' showcase event at the Nurburgring, the FIA Gran Turismo World Championship's will be held at 'stunning locations around the world'. All of the Regional Finals and World Finals races will be broadcasted live on the Internet, too.
Additional details on the FIA Gran Turismo Online Championships' Regional and World Finals are expected to be revealed during the summer of 2018.
