Audi has officially unveiled its contribution to the Vision Gran Turismo initiative: the e-tron Vision Gran Turismo track car concept.
A project that stems back to February 2013, the Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo is also the first drivable Vision Gran Turismo concept – with the car set to be used as a "race taxi" at the upcoming Rome ePrix Formula E race.
Official technical details on the car are limited, though Audi has confirmed the e-tron Vision Gran Turismo's all-electric powertrain produces 815 horsepower. Audi also claims the all-wheel-drive e-tron can reach 62mph from a standing start in under 2.5 seconds, though no top speed statistics were stated in the announcement.
In addition to the e-tron model, a hybrid Audi Vision Gran Turismo has also been revealed. Though this version won't be made into a real car, its 1,292-horsepower petrol-electric powertrain should make it considerably faster than the electric-only e-tron variant in Gran Turismo Sport.
As well as the speed difference, Gran Turismo Sport players will be able to tell the two Audi VGTs apart via some slight cosmetic differences. For example, the e-tron model features a white front grille and predominantly black wheels, with the colourscheme being reversed for the hybrid car.
Gran Turismo Sport players will have access to the Audi Vision Gran Turismo and Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo racing car concepts after installing the new 1.17 update.
