The 1929 Mercedes-Benz S Barker Tourer is the latest Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance entrant to be presented with the event's annual Gran Turismo Trophy award.
As a result of the prize, the classc one-off Mercedes pre-war sports touring car is now eligible to be included in a future Gran Turismo entry. However, due to the sacntioned online motorsports focus of Gran Turismo Sport, it's highly likely the S Barker Tourer won't ever be featured in the upcoming PS4-exclusive racing game.
On top of winning the Gran Turismo Trophy award, the Mercedes-Benz S Barker Tourer was also nominated as the 'Best in Show' at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
Originally commissioned by Francis Curzon, 5th Earl Howe, this unique Mercedes-Benz S-Series tourer was bodied by the prestigious London-based coachbuilder Barker & Co. Having been owned in an unrestored state for many years, the Mercedes-Benz S Barker Tourer was thoroughly renovated in preparation for its appearance at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance – with the restoration work being completed only a week before the prestigious classic car event commenced.
